Questions & Answers

Supplementary benefits are intended to cover living expenses. When an application is submitted, the applicant’s countable income, necessary expenses, and assets are reviewed. Countable income also includes income and assets that the applicant has waived. A gift or an advance on an inheritance received within the last five years can therefore backfire. Such a waiver of assets is taken into account for the applicant, with the exception of an annual allowance of CHF 10,000.00. Larger one-time gift amounts are spread out over the years for calculation purposes. Due to the redistribution of assets, support from relatives may also become an issue.

This matter is governed by law. The Federal Office of Public Health compiles the so-called List of Specialties (SL), which lists brand-name drugs and generic drugs, including their costs. Basic insurance covers the cost of a medication if it is listed on this Specialities List, has been prescribed by a doctor, and is used within the scope of its approved indications. It is important to note that the Specialities List is exhaustive; that is, if a product is not listed, the cost of the medication is not covered by basic insurance. If preparations are manufactured in the pharmacy as part of compounding, basic insurance covers the costs provided the preparation was prescribed by a doctor and its active and excipient ingredients are listed in the Drug List with Tariff (ALT). The deductible still applies.

Finally, basic insurance also covers the costs of medications on the list of medications for congenital conditions (GGML) that individuals require due to their congenital condition and that are not covered by disability insurance.

The decision from the unemployment insurance fund, which specifies the suspension dates, may be appealed within 30 days. Please refer to the information on legal remedies included in the decision. This section specifies the office to which the appeal must be submitted. The appeal must include a statement of claim and a statement of grounds. We would be happy to advise you on the appeal process.
